Mark has been in the communications business since 1978. A graduate of Kent State University, he served as a public relations specialist for the Community Development Department, City of Binghamton. He joined Riger in 1979 as a copywriter and field account executive and has accumulated broad experience in market research, creative strategy and account management. In addition to consumer and business-to-business advertising, he also has been deeply involved with a variety of financial, health care and professional services clients.

Tina Hodnik

Office Manager / Bookkeeper

Tina is often the first smiling face to greet our guests and callers and sets the tone as our office manager. Tina’s responsibilities include managing our books and financial matters and overseeing many of the agency's day-to-day business and housekeeping activities. She is responsible for paying our suppliers and vendors and making sure our clients receive their statements of account in a timely manner and that those accounts are settled promptly.

Briese Penaherrera

Junior Graphic Designer

Following a two-semester internship with the agency, Briese recently became a full-time member of our award-winning art department. She brings youth, creativity and flare to the function of producing effective visual ideation for client communications needs. Briese is a 2016 graduate of SUNY Oswego with a BFA in graphic design. She also has a love of photography, which we hope to put to good use as part of her day-to-day responsibilities.

Jamie Jacobs

Account Executive

Jamie’s career at Riger started as a student intern during the summer semester, 2005. Riger hired her as a part-time employee in her final year at Binghamton University, and she became full-time after graduation in 2006. Jamie has had a hand in preparing websites, print campaigns, radio and television spots, public relations events, branding and logo projects, as well as coordinating research, creative brainstorming, and new business development. She has served as the publicity coordinator for the Binghamton Sertoma Club and currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Binghamton Salvation Army.

Steve Johnson

Steve joined Riger as a copywriter in 1987. Since then, he has served as an account executive and account supervisor working with a wide variety of business-to-business, consumer, healthcare and financial services clients. In 1996, Steve became a shareholder in the Agency. In addition to co-managing the agency, Steve's client responsibilities include supervising Riger's community relations work on behalf of Sanofi Pasteur, a leading vaccine manufacturer. Steve sits on the board of the Broome Community College Foundation and is a member of the Communications Association of the Southern Tier. He previously served on the board of The Broome County Council of Churches. Other community activities include coaching Johnson City youth sports, volunteering for United Way campaigns, the Broome Library Foundation, Binghamton University Community campaigns, the Empire State Games and the Greater Binghamton Chamber.

Mary McLaughlin

Graphic Designer

Mary is another great Riger intern-turned-employee success story. She interned with us in 2011, graduated Magna Cum Laude from SUNY Oswego (BA Graphic Design with minor in Business Administration) in 2012, and came to join us as an account assistant in 2013. Her role has since grown into that of an account/production coordinator and graphic designer. Mary brings a bright personality, sharp eye for detail, commitment to customer satisfaction, and strong work ethic to the Riger team.

Mckensie Stoltzfus

Media Buyer/Account Assistant

Mckensie is our newest team member. She graduated Binghamton University with a BA degree in English Literature and Rhetoric and a minor in Sociology. A “digital native,” Mckensie interned with us and we immediately hired her as a freelancer for her social media skills. Now, as our media buyer/account assistant, she works closely with our account service teams, clients and media representatives, analyzing and buying both traditional and digital media in our clients’ best interests.

Laurie Van Kuren

Manager, Media and Account Services

Laurie’s role as media and account manager is to coordinate the media and account services functions of the agency. She deals with all aspects of the agency by leading project and campaign activity; ensuring that necessary actions are taken by the account team, attending client meetings, and maintaining and building strong client and vendor relationships. She has previous experience as Media Buyer, Media Director and Account Executive. She joined the agency after working for several years in the financial industry, with Chase Manhattan Bank and Clover Capital Management. Laurie is a director on the UHS Foundation Board, works each year as a volunteer for the UHS Foundation Annual Appeal, and is a team captain for the American Heart Association Heart Walk and a fund raising volunteer for AHA.
